Team Olukai Stays Perfect After Weekend Sweep 1 O'AHU, HI - July 22, 2009 – The OluKai sailing canoe team, Team Kamakakoa, holds the lead in the Hawaiian Sailing Canoe Association's 2009 sailing series after capturing wins on July 11th and 12th. On the first run, and third leg of the series, teams ventured from Haleolono, Molokai to Kualoa, O'ahu. The competition was fierce and the paddlers proved their expert abilities by powering through strong trade winds on a challenging sailing course. Team Kamakakoa found relief as their sailing canoe crossed the finish line with a time of 3 hours, 25 minutes.> The OluKai sailing team of all Kauai paddlers includes Marvin Otsuji, Ben Keahiolalo, Leroy Jumper, Katy Otsuji, Jason Dameron, Scott Wagner and Makana Deton. The team's run was nearly flawless. After paddling out to Lau Point, the sailing canoe caught wind and was never tested during the remainder of the course into O'ahu. On July 12th, the fourth leg of the race, teams sailed the coastline of O'ahu from Kualoa to Haleiwa. The trade wins were milder the second afternoon of racing as the OluKai sailing team again took the lead due to their tactical steering and paddling. Throughout the day, contender teams traded positions, but the OluKai sailing team with its tactical steering and paddling eased into its consecutive first place finish.e OluKai sailing team has a commanding lead in the sailing series standings and is four for four. The Association's next race is happening today, followed by the Na Holo Kai O'ahu to Kauai race on August 15.
